People often tell us that the key to ending homelessness is affordable housing. It may well be for those who are experiencing temporary homelessness. But what we see more often than not is chronic homelessness. And a chief cause of that is addiction.
Addiction and chronic homelessness frequently go hand in hand. So, what’s the solution then? Detox, then long term treatment and recovery programs along with life skills training, case management and advocacy. Then transitional housing.
It takes money to do this type of thing, and money that is invested wisely. We at Shepherd’s Way have the skills and training to do this. We’d love to do more than an outreach providing food, etc. But, without financial resources we just can’t do it. Hopefully, that’ll change someday soon. We pray to God for that to happen.
