People who are suffering from homelessness and addiction rarely see themselves as failures. They see themselves as ones who’ve lost pieces of something along their way through life.
Validate their feelings. Let them know that they haven’t failed, that they’ve for whatever reason been carrying too much alone and you understand that they have lost pieces along the way.
For those who’ve been spiritually-wounded, the pathway to recovery can be a slow process.
